R&M OPERATOR TRAINEE AT WAPCO
ABOUT WAPCO
WAPCo, which stands for West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited, is a corporation that possesses and manages the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP). The company is based in Accra, Ghana, and has additional offices in Ikeja, Nigeria, as well as field offices in Badagry, Nigeria, Cotonou, Benin, Lomé, Togo, and Tema and Takoradi in Ghana.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operational Excellence Management System
- Supervise all activities, employees, and contract personnel on site to ensure compliance with WAPCo HES policy, as directed by OC.
- Support OC in conducting routine facility tours, identifying and addressing workplace hazards, unsafe practices, security violations, and environmental concerns.
- Utilize Permit to Work and relevant certificates to manage non-routine activities on site.
- Participate in RCA to investigate abnormal operational issues, facility trips, and I&E issues, reporting as directed by O&M west.
- Take part in functional review team for all operations MoCs.
- Participate in required HAZOP/HAZID Reviews/studies.
- Act as a change agent in deploying and implementing OEMS modules in the facility.
- Assume the role of incident commander, coordinating emergency response activities and safety trainings onsite, in the absence of Operations Coordinator and O&M Supt.
- Maintain Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for all chemicals in the facility.
- Manage reporting of facility Chemical Inventory following WAPCo HAZCOM HES Practice.
- Conduct daily toolbox meetings and safety briefings for staff and visitors.
Pipeline & Facility Maintenance and Inspections
- Serve as Person-in-Charge for lockout/tagout procedures during piping and equipment repairs.
- Implement Preventive Maintenance Programmes at the R&M station to ensure the safety of rotating and non-rotating equipment, including Gas Conditioning, Metering and Export system, safety systems, utility system, and cathodic protection systems.
- Coordinate facility compliance checks, including inspections, performance evaluations, and documentation, and track completion of necessary actions using checklists.
- Conduct inspections of fire and safety equipment and systems to verify their maintenance and operational status.
- Propose modifications and enhancements to existing Corrosion Management Systems and equipment.
- Analyze and interpret survey and inspection data for further action and decision-making.
Quality Control & Measurement
- Calibrate the metering system.
- Inspect, maintain, or replace metering system components.
- Generate gas quality reports, identify specification discrepancies, and report them.
- Identify abnormal operating conditions, report them, and participate in resolving them.
- Record operating conditions of the liquid handling/vent header system.
- Record operating conditions of the power generation and distribution system.
- Troubleshoot and resolve abnormal operating conditions using procedures and job aids.
- Analyze operating parameter reports and take appropriate action.
- Inspect, maintain, or replace equipment components.
Facility Materials and Projects Management
- Supervise spare parts usage and monitor reorder levels for uninterrupted customer delivery.
- Request materials and services for daily work through requisitions.
- Manage chemical inventory and verify Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for facility items.
- Ensure operators’ facility coverage aligns with the approved schedule.
- Support the implementation of the business plan at the station level.
- Plan monthly, weekly, and daily work activities, including shutdowns, and assign personnel.
- Serve as a contract and quality assurance compliance inspector for WAPCo projects.
- Take on-site responsibility for completing projects as specified in the contract documents.
Pipeline System-Operating/Utilities
- Coordinate work at the R&M station and collaborate with team members and contractors for equipment start-up, shutdown, and daily operations.
- Assist in facility ORD Audits and contribute to resolving significant equipment malfunctions or operational issues.
- Utilize the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for tasks such as accessing work centers, reviewing reports, and creating maintenance and activity reports.
- Ensure pre-job planning, SIMOP preparation and execution, and work permitting are conducted.
- Supervise or personally carry out routine housekeeping tasks on site.
People and Organization
- Oversee the daily operations at the Station.
- Coordinate and engage in team meetings (at the site and regional levels), establish work plans, create schedules, and manage time effectively. Also, contribute to the standardization and enhancement of team activities and work procedures.
- Create, gain approval for, implement, and monitor employee work schedules to ensure sufficient coverage for site Operations.
REQUIREMENT
Applicants should hold a Bachelor’s degree (BSc) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Engineering, specializing in Chemical, Gas, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering. Additionally, a minimum of two (2) years of practical work experience in a related industry is required.
