PROGRAM DETAILS
Chevening Scholarships are prestigious awards that enable exceptional individuals to undertake full-time master’s degree programs at UK universities. The program is funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) and various partner organizations. Each year, hundreds of talented professionals and future leaders are selected from a wide range of fields to pursue their academic and professional goals in the UK.
Since its establishment in 1983, Chevening has provided a transformative experience in the UK for over 50,000 exceptional professionals. For the upcoming academic year 2023-24, there are over 1,500 scholarships available worldwide, highlighting the UK’s unwavering dedication to nurturing the future leaders.
ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for the Chevening Scholarship Award, the following criteria must be met:
Citizenship: You must be a citizen of one of the eligible Chevening countries.
Academic Qualifications: You should hold an undergraduate degree that is equivalent to a UK 2.1 (‘upper second-class honours’).
Work Experience: A minimum of two years’ work experience is required.
Offer of Admission: By the 13th of July 2023, ensure that you have applied to three eligible UK university courses and received an unconditional offer from one of these options.
Undergraduate Degree Completion: Have completed an undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification, ensuring it meets the minimum academic requirements of the chosen course of study in the UK.
If you already hold a master’s degree, it does not prohibit you from applying for a Chevening Award to pursue a second master’s degree in the UK. However, you must clearly explain how it will contribute to your career plan and your ability to drive positive change in your home country.
PROGRAM BENEFITS
Chevening Scholarships provide recipients with a comprehensive package of benefits, including:
- Tuition fees: Scholars receive full coverage of tuition fees for their chosen course.
- Monthly stipend: A monthly living allowance is provided to cover accommodation, food, and other living expenses.
- Economy class return airfare: Scholars are granted an economy class air ticket to travel to and from the UK.
- Arrival allowance: A contribution towards the cost of arrival, including visa application fees.
- Thesis grant: Scholars undertaking a research-based program may be eligible for an additional grant to support their thesis or dissertation.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
The application process for Chevening Scholarships typically opens in August, with a deadline in early November.
To apply for a Chevening Scholarship, visit www.chevening.org/apply and choose your country from the provided dropdown list. Once you have submitted your application, it will undergo evaluation to determine its compliance with Chevening’s eligibility criteria. Applications that meet the criteria will then undergo assessment by independent reading committees, who will create a longlist of qualified applicants.
If your application is included in the longlist, you will receive an invitation to provide references and participate in an interview with the British embassy or high commission in your country of application. These interviews, conducted in English, involve a panel that will inquire about your personal and professional goals and how a Chevening Scholarship would contribute to their realization. Your chosen courses of study will also be taken into account during the assessment process. Following the interview, the panel will evaluate your performance against the global Chevening criteria.
APPLICATION DEADLINE
The application period for the 2023-24 Chevening Scholarships has closed, and no further applications are being accepted. The results of the selection process will be announced in June 2023. If you are selected as a successful applicant, you will commence your studies in the United Kingdom in September/October 2023.
