PROGRAM DETAILS

The Program for the 2023-2024 academic year provides comprehensive funding for students from developing and newly industrialized countries who have a minimum of two years of professional experience. Its aim is to support their pursuit of a postgraduate or master’s degree at a German university recognized by the state. 

Successful applicants will benefit from financial assistance covering academic expenses, a monthly stipend, health insurance, travel expenses, accommodation costs, and a monthly rent subsidy. 

The duration of the master’s degree program ranges from 12 to 24 months, depending on the specific program, while the PhD degree program is 36 months long for both international and German students.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

  • Completed and signed checklist.
  • DAAD application “Application for a research/study scholarship” (answers should be typed or easily readable).
  • Curriculum vitae in reverse chronological order, using the europass template, including comprehensive information about studies and practical experience.
  • Letter of Motivation, highlighting academic, professional, and personal reasons for applying to the program.
  • For applicants applying to multiple postgraduate courses (up to 3), detailed reasons for course choices and prioritization should be included in the letter of motivation, which should be uniform for all selected programs.
  • Letter of recommendation from current employer, including official letterhead, signature, official stamp, and a current date (not in a sealed envelope).
  • Certificate(s) of Employment from employer(s), demonstrating at least two years of relevant work experience after the Bachelor’s degree up to the application date. If possible, a guarantee of re-employment from the current employer upon returning home should be included. The certificate of employment from the current employer should also state the guarantee of re-employment after returning to the home country.
  • Recent proof of Language Skills:
    • English – IELTS or TOEFL (Kindly Note: The institutional TOEFL will not accepted)
    • German – Required for courses that are taught in German
  • Copies of higher education degree certificates. If the original certificates are not in German or English, certified translations should be provided, ensuring clear legibility.
  • Copy of full transcript of records, including an explanation of the grading system if not part of the transcript.
  • Applicants from the People’s Republic of China must include an APS Certificate with their application documents.

SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS

A typical scholarship holder:

  • Works for a public authority or a state or private company in a developing country.
  • Is involved in planning and executing directives and projects focused on development policies in technological, economic, or social areas.
  • Holds a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, typically completed in four years.
  • Has achieved excellent academic results (upper third) and possesses a minimum of two years of professional experience related to their bachelor’s degree.
  • The academic degrees obtained should generally not exceed six years from the time of application.
  • Applicants who have resided in Germany for more than 15 months at the application deadline are ineligible for consideration.

PROGRAM BENEFITS

  • DAAD Scholarship Monthly Stipend:
    • 850 euros for master studies.
    • 1,200 euros for doctoral studies.
  • Health, accident, and personal liability insurance coverage.
  • Travel Allowance.
  • Free tuition fee.

Depending on specific situations, recipients of scholarships may be entitled to the following supplementary advantages:

  • Financial assistance in the form of a monthly subsidy to cover rent expenses. 
  • Monthly stipend provided for accompanying family members.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

  • Submit your comprehensive application(s) directly to the respective postgraduate course.
  • A selection committee will propose prospective candidates for a DAAD scholarship.
  • DAAD will reach out to the suggested candidates to upload their complete applications to the DAAD Portal.
  • The selection process will be concluded, and the suggested candidates will be notified accordingly.
